Weekend Doings - Catching Up On the Old Homestead

Last weekend Hubby, Son & I went out to the house in Towanda (Hubby's Mother's old home) to do some much needed yard work and minor repairs.  The day was bright, sunny and just cool enough to be a nice work day.

Son started out mowing in the front yard, easy as pie to finish up there. Then he went to the back yard, this looked like a jungle of overgrown weeds and tall grass,  Evidently this part of her yard had not been taken care of for a very long time. It was in very sad shape.

Needless to say, Hubby took over the mowing in the back yard and Son took over the caulking in the basement.  It took most of the morning to get the yard and basement back up to snuff so the house could be sold.  We have also made arrangements (better than those from last year, I hope, for the yard to be maintained thru the spring & summer.

It does look so much nicer now, though.

The next day, Sunday, was quite chilly and just made for baking!  I found an Angelfood Cake mix in my cupboards when I was cleaning my kitchen last month, so decided this would be the perfect day to bake that up.  As I was going thru gathering everything I would need, I realized that I didn't have an Angelfood cake pan!  Looking at the pictures of the pan on the back of the mix box, I though about the Springform pan I bought myself several years ago and have never used, not even unwrapped it!  So, I unwrapped it thinking that it will be a bit strange since I wouldn't have the center open like most Angelfoods do. Was I ever surprised when I found out that my Springform pan was PERFECT for an Angelfood as well as the planned cheesecakes that I actually bought it for.  This had TWO bottoms for the spring loaded side.  One was a regular flat bottom for the cheesecakes and the other was a nice wavy bottom with a center ring for Angelfood cakes!  I was in heaven!

The cake turned out beautiful and delicious.

Especially with fresh strawberries!

Wishing all of you the best results for your hard work, and tender sweetness every day.

A Voyage of Discovery, In My Own Home!

Mother's Day was a beautiful day in my household.  Hubby & I kept our 8 year old grandson for the weekend.  This always thrills me as he brings a much-needed breath of fresh and youthful air to our lives.  His joy for life and wonderous imagination has led me on many fantastic adventures in our home.  This weekend was just a little different as I was also cleaning out a closet that had been used for storage for many years without really going thru and getting rid of anything!  Needless to say, the grandson had a great time seeing some of the kept objects from his mother's childhood!

This is what my junk storage closet looks like now (after pulling everything, going thru & tossing, then putting the keepers back in some semblance of order).

This is what my family room looked like after I pulled everything out of the closet (notice the grandson sitting on the sofa playing his Wii!  He had a hard time getting anywhere else in that crowded mess!)
Part of the mess is still in the family room, but at least you can get around the main part of the room.

I also worked some in the front bedroom which is on it's way to becoming my craft room/spare bedroom.  I have many good ideas for that room, but is it a small room so we will see what I can fit into it.  More on that later, when I am willing to show you my BIG MESS!  :-)

The last adventure Grandson & I  went on was a trip to the grocery store, this was his grocery list, and yes, we did follow his list on some things.  I will leave it to you, my readers, to figure out which ones.

Until next time, work those imaginations!  That is what makes life fun!

Rediscovering Date Night!

So many years ago that I don't even remember now, my husband and I would go out for dinner, and sometimes a movie. Just the two of us would go out.  Now that all the kids have grown up and moved out, it is amazing that we don't still do that!  But we haven't for many years, until this year!  I lucked into a set of tickets for two to enjoy the pleasure of our Wichita Symphony Orchestra Classics Concerts (3) and Pops Concerts (1).  We have attended two of the classics so far and have truly enjoyed the time together and the wonderful music.

Our first concert was the Sunday after Valentine's Day.  This was ideal for us since neither of us really like crowds when we go out to eat, and I had already planned on this being a full date night with concert and dinner at a nice restaurant afterwards.  The concert was AMAZING!  Even Dave enjoyed the classical music.

After the concert, we went to The Larkspur for dinner.  The food was wonderful (even if Dave really just wanted a hamburger and they don't serve them). The ambiance was quiet and relaxing, even if they were playing jazz, which can be rather jarring after Tchaikovsky. And we had a wonderful time for our Valentine's Date Night.

All in all, I will call this evening a successful first date with my husband of 15 years!
We even got back home before our 10:00 PM bedtime!  Very successful, in my opinion!

In The Beginning......

To tell you something about myself, I am over 50 and have (finally) discovered my personal style, which I would like to document and share here.

I have gone from tolerating my naturally curly hair to hating it, back to tolerating it, on to trying my best to change it, cutting it very short, and finally to embracing the curls and making the best of my hairstyles.

I have also gone from a stick of a girl to a very curvy woman (in just the past 10 to 15 years), and have had to learn to dress for the body-type I am now.  Talk about a learning curve! WOW! But I am learning what works for me and sometimes what definitely does not work!

I also have a home that has been disrupted so many times with boomerang children that I am still discovering what each room will be!  Follow me on my on-going discovery in My Well-Styled Life!
